SMOKE FIRED PORCELAIN
It all happened from a mistake. Twenty years ago, my kiln broke days before a big show. Somebody suggested I smoke fire my work rather than glaze. I’ve been cooking with pine needles ever since! My “cooking” table is filled with smokable organics, such as chile peppers, papers, wood shavings, banana peels, Ponderosa and Blue Spruce pine needles and a few secret ingredients. I ignite one combustible after another and watch the magic happen. To paint with smoke and later enhance with pigmented waxes for an extra glow is a challenge and a reward. Most artists prefer to sell exactly what they make. I adore working closely with clients to create anything they like, in any size, shape, carving and color tones they desire.
