It’s the Shoe That Makes the Woman
Why in the world would I ever want to create an enormous stiletto? Why in the world not. We women love shoes.
For years, I’ve been making successful smoke fired platters and sculptures with 22 karat gold leaf, colored pigmented waxes and oils.
Several years ago, I thought it would be fun to start sculpting one of a kind 6 inch stiletto shoes and boots from my fabulous porcelain clay. These were a huge hit, and many collectors collaborated with me so I could create wild shoes for them.
Most artists are not keen on working on commissions. I love working with my collectors!
When visiting my sculptor friend in Thailand at the beginning of 2015, we went to the Thai Metal Crafters Foundry. I was totally hooked. Upon seeing the magnificent larges scale sculptures from world famous artists in the process of completion, this sealed the deal. I knew I’d have to send the foundry one of my porcelain carved stilettos to make an enormous sized stiletto sculpture. I decided 6 feet long would be perfect.
I adore the deep ruby red paint with gold mica flecks. Upon adding marabou feathers and opalized crystals from Brazil and the U.S., this sculpture was ready for exhibition!
The process of creating this shoe so intrigued the Robert Redford Film Scholar, Mr. Lobsang Tenzin, from Tibet, at the Santa Fe University of Art & Design, that he created an entire short film detailing it’s creation.
My stilettos may be created in any color, with gemstones, gold leaf, even covered in Swarovski crystals. This sculpture (144 pounds) may be installed and displayed upright on strong wall.
